As Maharani Kumud Kumari of Gondal and her husband travelled extensively in India and abroad, every destination created a new opportunity for Maharani to learn about local food.
These, together with the recipes Maharani Kumud Kumari grew up with, from Bhavnagar and Malwa, and her own experiments in the kitchen have made their way into the Recipes Of A Maharani book.
This book Maharani dedicates to her mother Manhar Kunver of Bhavnagar.

The author, Mr V Kumaraswamy works as the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) and Head of Strategy of a fairly large Indian corporate group. His work has taken him to some remote corners across the world; from Myanmar to Mozambique, from Estonia to Papua, from Swaziland to Vietnam. This, together with his own interest in travel, has exposed him to over four dozen countries, their culture, their people, social mores, practices, peculiarities, local governance systems, etc. It has given him the opportunity to study them at close quarters by being with them, interacting with them, observing them and experiencing their ways of life.
This has put him in touch with paupers and fishermen, drivers, guards and guides, monks, priests and boatmen, high and low ranking government officials from presidents, ambassadors, ministers to chiefs of some of the largest companies, tribal dwellers, politicians to pole dancers and PhDs, chefs, lions and cheetahs, researchers to rogues – poor and rich, cultured or otherwise, young and old, smiling or grumpy, etc.
He has met people whose income is less than half of India’s per capita, yet sporting a smile on their faces, exuding optimism and comfort with their circumstances. These experiences include a trip to Egypt just a couple of weeks before the Tahrir Square revolution, when he stayed in a hotel which shared the road with Mubarak’s summer palace; travel in one of the most heavily land-mined areas in the world – Cambodia; getting into trouble with the US authorities in Swaziland for innocuous photography; pleasant experiences during innumerable trips to Myanmar; experiences and insights from the animal kingdom in South Africa; sampling the taste of Dutch humour and their famous paintings, etc.
This book is about such experiences and the diverse lessons learnt from them. It is not a travelogue of various touristy places and historical monuments or beaches. The book is about the various unusual and novel (sometimes embarrassing and awkward yet sometimes very humbling and at other times moving) experiences, conversations with ordinary people yielding extra-ordinary insights on various facets of lif
